'No judgement' yet after massive 7-1 win: Kimmichi's voice on Germany's chances

Joshua Kimmichi has warned that it is 'not a decision now' against Germany, who thrashed Curacao 7-1 in their World Cup 2026 Group E opener. Havertz scored seven, including a double; Germany passed Brazil with 239 World Cup goals. According to Kimmichi, the Ivory Coast in Toronto and the Ecuador matches in New Jersey are the real tests.

Germany started with a 7–1 win over Curacao in their World Cup 2026 Group E opener. But even after this sparkling start, Madhya Maidan leader Joshua Kimmichi made it clear that 'our true level will be known at the end of the group stage'.

This is the fourth time Germany have scored seven or more goals in a single World Cup match. They have also surpassed Hungary as the team that has scored most times on these occasions. However, the beginning was not so smooth. After Felix Nmecha took the lead in the 6th minute with a precise finish, Curacao got a historic equalizer in the 21st minute when Livano Comenencia's shot was deflected. This was their first World Cup goal; This is the first time a team has scored this early in the tournament since the 1994 Nigeria-Bulgaria match (21st minute).

Germany regained control before halftime with a Nico Schlatterbeck header and Kai Havertz penalty. Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undau scored in quick succession after the break; Havertz netted a second time to make the win huge.

The seven goals took Germany to 239 goals in World Cup history, surpassing Brazil's 238. But a temporary draw by Curacao, the smallest nation to qualify for the World Cup, led to criticism of Germany's defensive lapses.

Kimmichi responded calmly: 'It was a predictable victory. The scoreline is extraordinary. But the opponent we played was not world class. The next two matches are the real criteria. Physically stronger teams – Ivory Coast, Ecuador – are well adapted to the conditions. We still need to work on sustainability; He said to the media that the goals to be given should be reduced even with small teams.

"Experts can really judge our level only after the first two matches. "With 10 consecutive wins, we feel we are on the right track," added Kimmichi.

Julian Nagelsmann's side now face Ivory Coast in Toronto on Saturday. They also have three points. Ecuador's clash in New Jersey five days later will further clarify Germany's group fate.
